Facebook is announcing several new features, that include WhatsApp integration, support for first-hand information sharing and an expansion of “Data for Good” tools for things like better disaster and displacement maps.
WhatsApp Gets Facebook’s Crisis Response Tool
The is such an amazing feature which helps family, friends and communities support one another in the time of a disaster. A few years ago, Facebook introduced these tools such as Safety Check, Community Help and Fundraisers, all under a centralized “Crisis Response” centralized hub. Emily Dalton Smith, Facebook’s head of social impact product, said: “We heard from people all over the world who wanted to see this happen,” “We hope our tools can support people in unlocking that inherent human generosity,” She thinks that for its Crisis Response tool, using WhatsApp would be especially beneficial in those areas where there is a poor connectivity and where WhatsApp might be the only accessible messaging tool. Moreover, Facebook is also adding new functionality to Crisis Response that is allowing people in affected areas to share first-hand information about what they are thinking that others should also know such as building collapses or road closures.
